About Erv…

I’m an artist with a diverse professional background and varied lived experiences. Much of my working life has been spent managing the design of transportation engineering projects. I have also worked as a backcountry park ranger, lightkeeper on a remote fly-in lighthouse and in various trades. I’ve volunteered with several experiential education programs, teaching life skills and sailing skills to youth on reproduction longboats and a heritage registered 100’ schooner.

All of the above has grounded me in the natural and human histories of this area and fostered an interest in how art finds meaning for people and communities. Community engagement and arts based creative expression have been central components of my practice as an artist from the outset. In these hectic times where building community has sometimes become a challenge, I believe art should strive to connect us while giving us something to pause and consider. I am passionate about creating art that touches people in unexpected ways, and helping folks to see themselves as artists.

When my creations inspire people to pause, to feel, to contemplate things from a perspective they perhaps haven’t previously considered, or even just fill them with a moment of joy, I know I am having an impact as an artist.
